Sarracenia purpurea (Purple Pitcher Plant)

I was pretty surprised to find out that there were pitcher plants in Western Mass.  I guess purple pitcher plant leaves do produce some digestive enzymes, but apparently they primarily rely on microbial communities to help digest their prey.
